Originally conceived by Ian Fleming for his James Bond novel series, the ‘double 0’ section of MI6 are secret agents, with a licence to kill. The most famous of the double 0s, is of course, the codename for Bond himself: 007.

Unlike other double 0 agents, 004 does not appear in any film adaptations from the Bond series, and so the physical identity of he or she remains a mystery…. all we know, from The Facts of Death by Raymond Benson, is that his name was Frederick Wardner, and in Sebastian Faulks’ novel Devil May Care, a Bond-Girl by the name of Scarlett Papava is revealed to be 004, having replaced the previous agent who was killed in Berlin... Joe Bananas Art Series 004 is as close as we know to the appearance of this mystery agent.
