Before Sydney Harbour was adorned with its modern skyline, Fort Denison stood as a towering sandstone monolith, known to the Eora people as ‘Mat-te-wan-ye’. Rising 49 feet (15m) from the waters, it was an unmissable landmark, until the early European settlers dismantled it, using its stone to build Sydney’s first port and Circular Quay—mere moments from where Joe Bananas’ Australian flagship now stands in The Rocks.

Ironically, the prison-turned-military-fort was later rebuilt using sandstone from the Harbour’s North Shore, forever embedding Sydney’s layered history within its walls. Inspired by this forgotten past, the Fort Denison Raw Silk Jacket reflects its legacy through a textured herringbone weave, where sandy peaks rise and fall like the monolith once did from the Harbour.
