Description
INSPIRATION:
The iconic Red-Bellied Black Snake (RBBS), whose scales provide the inspiration for this unique Joe Bananas tapestry, is one of the most frequently encountered snakes across Australia. Their native habitat extends nearly the entire length of the east coast of Australia, as well as up to 500km inland. Like Australian people, these snakes love the sun and the water.
The RBBS is an incredibly shy snake and will freeze to avoid detection, allowing humans to get uncomfortably close. Given its intimidating appearance and rotund body, especially when stationary, it is sadly vulnerable to humans wielding shovels and shot guns. RBBS will naturally retreat when threatened but when overwhelmed, can defend themselves with a very painful, yet rarely lethal venomous bite.
This weave brings the RBBS out of the shadows and celebrates its unique scales for all to see.
DRESS IT UP OR DOWN: For daytime wear with navy chinos or dark denim, go for soft blues and lilacs beneath the jacket. To make it all about the jacket, black trousers or chinos with dress shoes, black or white, or black and white printed shirt.
CURIOUS FACT: When threatened or evading predators, including humans, RBBS are known to enter water and even stay fully submerged for up to 20 minutes.
